What is a 36C Bra Size?

Knowing your bra size goes beyond just numbers and letters. When you wear a bra that truly fits, you move through your day with confidence and comfort.

Here's what 36C really means and how to make this size work perfectly for your body.

What Does 36C Mean?

A 36C bra size consists of two measurements that work together to create your unique fit. The number 36 represents your band size, or the measurement around your ribcage just below your bust.

The letter C indicates your cup size, which is the difference between your band and bust measurement. A C means there's approximately a 3-inch difference between your band measurement and the fullest part of your bust.

Sister Sizes for 36C

Sister sizes are different bra sizes that hold the same cup volume but offer different band fits. For 36C, your sister sizes are 34D (smaller band, larger cup letter) and 38B (larger band, smaller cup letter).

Sister sizes allow you to maintain the same cup capacity, but provide a slightly tighter or looser fit around the band. For example, if your 36C band feels too loose but the cups fit perfectly, try a 34D for a slightly more snug band with the same cup volume. On the other hand, if the band feels too tight but you love how the cups fit, a 38B provides more band room while maintaining that same cup volume.

Sister sizing can be particularly helpful when shopping different bra brands, as sizing can vary between manufacturers, or during natural body fluctuations and weight changes. Having sister sizes in your wardrobe is an easy way to make sure you always have an option that fits and feels good.

Common Fit Challenges and Solutions

Even with the right size on paper, real-world fit can present challenges. If your band rides up your back throughout the day, it's likely too loose and not providing adequate support.

Cup spillage, or when breast tissue escapes over the top or sides of your cups, indicates you need more cup capacity. While 36C might be your measured size, you might need a 36D for certain bra styles or during hormonal fluctuations; full-coverage styles can also help contain tissue that tends to migrate.

Gapping cups, or empty space between your breast and the bra cup, present the opposite problem. This might mean trying a 36B, but often it could also be a style mismatch. Different bra designs work better with different breast shapes, so start by identifying your breast shape and learning about the best styles for you.

When straps dig into your shoulders, your band isn't doing its job. The band should provide 80% of your bra's support, with straps used for stabilizing. Look for styles with wider bands and side support panels.

Best Bra Styles for Your Shape

A 36C is a great candidate for most bra styles, as long as they have adequate support. Avoid flimsy bralettes and instead opt for sturdy wireless bras or underwire t-shirt bras.

The CrossOver Bra is a great everyday wireless option with full-coverage cups, supportive bonding at the underbust, wide smoothing wings, and adjustable straps. A 36C bra size will feel comfortable and supported in this flexible style.

The Silhouette Bra is an excellent option for those who are drawn to the more minimal profile of a bralette, but want all the support bells and whistles like bonding, smoothing, boning, and full coverage cups.

The CloudEmbrace Bra is a modern wireless t-shirt bra with molded foam cups and cup and band sizing. A 36C bra size will appreciate the precise sizing and extra support of this bra.
